The aviation sector in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi saw some invigorating thrusts for the year 2013, leading to further important and noteworthy developmental plans for the Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2014.

The surge of traffic both inbound and outbound increased substantially as compared to statistical figures of 2012. Incoming traffic surged by nearly 17 million passengers accounting for a 12.4% increase as compared to figures of 2012. Likewise, there was a substantial increase of over 24% in the cargo traffic being routed through the airport as compared to statistical figures of 2012.

The rise has been attributed to the focused developmental action being taken to enhance the air traffic numbers through the capital city. The increased number of aircraft operators plying to and from the Abu Dhabi International Airport has also been an important contributor to these increasing statistical percentages.

In addition, the introduction of new flights embarking to destinations in Serbia, Yemen, United States of America, Vietnam, Brazil and the Netherlands has also contributed to these thrusts to the Abu Dhabi aviation sector. Noteworthy partnerships entered between leading aircraft operating companies in the Middle-east with their counterparts in countries like India, Philippines and Latvia have also resulted in inbound and outbound traffic increase to and from these destinations on account of increased flight operational schedules.

The Abu Dhabi International Airport has seen some fast-paced development in its infrastructural offerings. The inauguration of the two new air terminals have also been cited to be a cause of these upward thrusts to the aviation figures which is expected to rise further in 2014.

The goal for the Abu Dhabi International Airport has been the constructional development of a new terminal which has been advancing in the desired pace. It is expected that this terminal will be inaugurated in 2017. According to the CEO of the International Airport, such developmental avenues have been an important factor leading to the visible and accentuated growth of services in the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
