The 16th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) was officially inaugurated yesterday in the UAE capital.

Themed ‘Energy for all in a Changing World’, ADIPEC 2013 is the largest regional event in the gas and oil sector, taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in Abu Dhabi, and concluding on 13th November.

Leading experts from around the world will discuss opportunities and challenges posed by an evolving energy landscape, in the presence of over 50,000 energy professionals from across the globe.

Occupying more than 30,000 sq metres of exhibition space at ADNEC, ADIPEC is considered one of the region’s super events, offering significant direct and indirect economic benefits to Abu Dhabi.

The event will also explore the growing demand for the empowerment of women in the oil and gas sector and the need for the industry to encourage and inspire young people to take up careers in gas and oil.

During his opening address to some of the world’s most important energy leaders, Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, UAE, said:

“ADIPEC 2013 is an outstanding forum to directly discuss pressing issues facing the all-important oil and gas industry. As one of the major producers in the world, the UAE and Abu Dhabi continue to lead the way as a global hub for technology and innovation. Important changes are taking place as part of the shifting energy balance: the UAE has decided to be part and embrace this change, while remaining a reliable source and supplier of hydrocarbon to the world.”

Abdulla Nasser AlSuwaidi, Director General of ADNOC, said:

“This event is held at a pivotal time in our region, when the shifting energy balance is shaping the future of global economic growth. Oil and gas remain at the centre of this balance and ADNOC continues to ensure a safe oil and gas supply globally, working towards increasing output to 4.5 million tonnes by mid-2014.”

Mohammed A. Sahoo AlSuwaidi, Director, Gas Directorate, ADNOC, and Chairman, ADIPEC 2013 Conference, said:

“What began as a small gathering of petrol engineers in 1984, ended up being the largest oil and gas conference in this region, and amongst the top three in the world. This year is special to us, because from now on, ADIPEC is annual. This region’s thirst for energy has never been higher: Young people will be driving this innovation and the workforce will expand to include new generations and more women in leadership positions.

This year’s exhibition and conference will serve as a watershed for Abu Dhabi in highlighting its role as a global energy leader. ADIPEC is a platform designed to serve the needs of the industry, shining a light on key issues and facilitating the process of identifying innovative solutions. Abu Dhabi is a proven, responsible and increasingly diversified energy leader and an important contributor to the global dialogue.”

The 16th edition of the event includes an expanded technical conference and a new dedicated business conference at which CEOs from the world’s biggest energy companies will present and discuss global energy security, as well as issues related to the modernisation of infrastructure, and the need for an efficient supply value-chain for sustainable development of the sector and the economy as a whole.”, he added

Critically, ADIPEC will for the first time focus on the important role of women in the gas and oil industry through a dedicated women-in-industry panel. It will also feature ‘Young ADIPEC’ – a comprehensive programme of events, outreach and education designed to encourage the industry’s future leaders. Young ADIPEC will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. Both themes will form new categories at the ADIPEC Awards, winners of which will be announced during a glittering ceremony on 10 November hosted by ADNOC.

C-suite executives set to headline the panel discussions include Bob Dudley, CEO, BP; Toshiaki Kitamura, President and CEO, Inpex; Moon Kyu Suh, President and CEO, Knoc; Ben Van Beurden, CEO Designate, Shell; Abdelhamid Zerguin, CEO, Sonatrac; Helge Lund, CEO, Statoil; Christophe de Margerie, CEO, Total; Ali Al Jarwan, CEO, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company, ADNOC Group, and Carl Sheldon, CEO, TAQA amongst others.
