Gartner, a research group, estimates that brands across the globe will spend about $3.3 billion (Dh12.1 billion) on advertisements on mobile phones in the year 2011. The driving factor according to the research group is the rise in consumers using their mobile phones and the mobile technology available these days.
The research group said the $3.3 billion forecast would be more than double that generated in 2010 as brands and advertisers seek to reach consumers who are constantly using their mobile phones and advancement in technology. The rise in popularity of smartphones and media tablets such as Apple iPad, iPhone, has also boosted the market for mobile advertising.
According to the research director Stephanie Baghdassarian, brands have better opportunity to target their customers in a contextual manner. This is also an indication of mobile advertising budgets moving up across various categories and regions. The budget rise is expected to reach 4 percent in 2015. She also added that in future mobile search will include paid positioning on maps about the location.
