This December, Abu Dhabi is all set to witness one of the largest Blockchain conferences in the Middle East. The topics of interest would be ICOs, cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology for fintech and government. This is a must-attend conference if you want to get updated with the latest technologies and a great opportunity for networking.
Today’s Internet, as we know it, is evolving into ‘Internet of Value‘ which will enable us to exchange of any asset that is of value to someone, including stocks, votes, frequent flyer points, securities, intellectual property, music, scientific discoveries, and more.
And this is possible because the revolutionary technology, Blockchain, which is the same technology powering Bitcoin, the darling cryptocurrency which has now crossed $7545 a piece. (as on 5th November)
The best definition on Internet of Value that we found is:
“The Bitcoin protocol and network today us that foundational layer. It is a value transfer network. Beyond that, it is a core, backbone security service securing contracts, physical and digital property, equities, bonds, robot AI and an enormous wave of applications which have not yet been conceived” – Jeff Garzik, CEO Dunvegan Space Systems
Arabian Gazette interviewed Natalie Gavrilenko, СEO of AroundB Company, to find out more about the event. Therefore, it’s of no surprise that there is a huge interest to learn and get involved with these new and emerging FinTech technologies.
Who is the organizer of this event?
B Conference events are organised by the company AroundB. We build and run professional FinTech events and conferences all around the world, helping cutting edge companies and startups grow their business and realize their potential.
Reason for choosing Abu Dhabi as the venue?
It is the second year in a row that we are holding our conference in Abu Dhabi. Last year, it was very successful and brought together over 130 participants from many different locations. We understand that the market in the Emirates (both Dubai and Abu Dhabi) has been developing rapidly. This is the reason why this region is looking for new projects & new teams that can become part of the FinTech system of the UAE.

Can you share some of the UAE Government initiatives on blockchain technologies?
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are both intensifying their efforts in parallel to adopt blockchain technology into different spheres, from the financial system to document circulation and government sectors. Publication of the Cryptocurrency & ICO Guidance is an important milestone for Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority has made their position clear on cryptocurrencies and ICO’s. Crypto currencies will be classified as commodities and ICO’s — as securities. Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) notes that virtual goods have much in common with real goods, such as precious metals, oil & gas and agricultural products. Thus, mining and transactions in deals for real goods do not fall under the jurisdiction of the regulator.
Who are the top speakers coming to the event?
We are very selective when it comes to choosing speakers and topics for discussion. We’re aware that there are a lot of unprofessional and dishonest projects, that is why we thoroughly check all the speakers and companies wishing to participate in our event. We work hard and love what we do so bringing the best content to our audience is the single most important thing for us.
This year we will have an incredibly interesting program with top speakers from fintech companies, banking, regulatory and investment sectors. We are going to introduce a discussion between all our participants sharing a wealth of knowledge as to what the projects offer and what the UAE market needs. As a result there will be great networking potential for the creation of new projects, new cooperation and new business contracts.
China has banned ICOs. Why do you think they did that? What according to you does the future hold for ICOs in China?
The times we live in are very exciting. It’s just the beginning of the Blockchain era not only for China but for the whole world. China is one of the biggest players, and of course, everything that happens there has a big impact on both the Crypto Currency’s and future ICO’s. Most recently, China has said it is creating its own cryptocurrency. Although there may be a lot of debate around the viability of Bitcoin there is no question that Blockchain technology is very much here to stay. Therefore, I repeat, it’s just the beginning, and the behavior of such giants as China and the US should be closely monitored.
Why are ICOs attractive for companies to raise funds?
ICOs have been the number one topic for nearly a year now. Today everyone is trying to jump in on the trend and think only about how to create a project that will raise millions. However, many don’t think about the future. What will they do with investors and regulators who will be interested in funds raised and the future of the project? We have already seen cracks start to surface. I’m talking about Tezos, which may be the first unsuccessful project having an incredibly successful ICO. The market is just beginning to wake up and build the right strategy not only to raise funds but also to protect investors afterward.
A top official from the Abu Dhabi Securities Market recently commented that they are actively looking into ICOs regulations. Do you have any more information on this?
Abu Dhabi’s Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority has made their position clear on cryptocurrencies and ICOs. The chief executive director of the FSRA also notes that ICOs have completely transformed the fundraising environment, and thus regulatory frameworks around the world are being finalized to adapt to these innovations. Blockchain Conference Abu Dhabi will create a constructive dialogue between business and government representatives.
What are some of the topics that will be covered during the event?
We will have four main directions:
● ICO’s and involvement of investments
● Blockchain technology for FinTech and government
● Cryptocurrencies, chances for legalisation and regulation in Japan
● Smart contacts
