The COCO JALILA brand by Jalila Chocolate was born out of a love for chocolate and for the UAE, but would not have taken flight without the support of The Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development.
COCO JALILA founder, Najah Hussain is a gifted entrepreneur who established a successful in-depth strategic corporate communications consultancy. She has always had a deep love for and appreciation of fines foods, most especially all things chocolate. In the course of her international travels, she has tasted many brands, and, with a desire to share her favourites with friends and family, an idea took root: to create a truly sublime chocolate brand that is made with love for and in celebration of her homeland, the UAE.
This is a venture that is very dear to Najah’s heart. She wanted to do it with love and she wanted to do it well. She researched her subject thoroughly, tasting, testing, listening and learning. Once she had all the information at her fingertips and decided upon the best artisanal suppliers, she prepared an executive summary and approached the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development to support and invest in her venture.
The Khalifa Fund team have been almost as excited as Najah about the whole project and they are delighted to lend their support COCO JALILA by Jalila. Not only have they helped financially with “Bedaya” an interest-free, flexible payment term loan, they have helped guide Najah in planning her sales strategy and how best to take COCO JALILA to market effectively with the minimum delay.
Najah explained “My Khalifa Fund appointed counsellor has been wonderful. I have received support and guidance when I needed and the Fund has also encouraged me to make my own decisions. The Fund has become my staunchest ally: opening doors and finding networking partners to give COCO JALILA the best possible start and opportunity for success”.
To make the business work, Najah has surrounded herself with people who not only share her passion for chocolate but also her love for the UAE. The brand’s motif and packaging have been designed in consultation with up-and-coming Emirati graphic designer Fatma Al Mulla and the beribboned results are everything that Najah could have wished for. Already the COCO JALILA name is on the lips of every “chocolatista” and Najah is busy making sure that it becomes as much their favourite as it is hers!
