Let’s face it. Growing up, we’ve all fanaticized being able pull of some Rajnikanth tricks off our sleeves. Be it flipping our sunglasses in slow motion or tossing one of those candy sticks in our mouth pretending it to be a cigarette. We’ve tried them all but let me make it clear to you, Rajnikanth is a completely different person off screen from his on-screen persona.
Sporting a simple indian attire, with multiple bald patches, it is evident this man has embraced his roots. Forget all the glitz and glamour he’s been a part of, because he prefers to keep it humble. At Shankar’s magnum opus, Rajni ensured his presence was felt. This was an event attended by some of the biggest names in the industry apart from the 2.0 cast including Karan Johar, Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya Rajnikanth, Rana Daggubati, P Vasu, Resul Pookutty, Vijay Yesudas and Abbas Tyrewala. Amy Jackson was sporting a dress by Dubai based designer Michael Cinco.
With performances by musical maestro A R Rahman, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson, the audiences were swept off their feet grooving to the beats to the latest tracks from the film. The stage was themed based on the movie with futuristic and rather psychedelic lighting effects.
Karan Johar and Rana Daggubati hosted the event with their usually wit and occasional ‘Hindi vs Telegu’ banter. This was Rajnikanth’s first visit to Dubai, and every effort was made to ensure he enjoyed the event just as much as everyone. He was definitely going back home with a lot of memories from the show.
It was only after late at night that musical maestro A R Rahman unfolded two songs from the movie along with the Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra. Rahman ensured everything was done to convert Shankar’s vision into beautiful melodies taking into consideration their 23 years of working together.
2.0 Releases January 25, 2018 and it will be no surprise that this movie will take over theatres in the UAE by a storm.
Pegged as one of Asia’s most expensive productions, 2.0 is the sequel to the 2010 sci-fi film Enthiran. Shot with 3D cameras for an exceptional visual experience, the movie will see Rajinikanth reprise the role of Dr Vaseegaran and the robot Chitti, and mark the debut of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in Tamil cinema as the main villain.
