A Million Times by Humans since 1982 – Victor Hunt Gallery

A million times is a new installation which creates a giant display visually expressing the time digitally.

The installation is based on almost 300 interconnected analogue clocks. Each clock contains 2 motors to drive the minute and hour-hand independently, creating a choreography on one giant display, showcasing customizable texts, patterns and graphics.

“If I had known then, what I know now, I would never have come to know it at all” depicts a map of the UAE. The form is created by tearing figurative outlines of the country from paper and then crumpling that paper as if moving on to the next idea. It looks at the frustration of the artistic process, as so many ideas and attempts are cast aside when trying to create a great work. The resulting work is born out of the act of surrender, giving up the control of the form and submitting it to the will of God. One of those rejected ideas is unfolded to reveal a topographical landscape, unforeseen by the artist. The chosen form is then cast in bronze.

Helidon Xhixha is Albanian-born Fine Arts sculptor based in Dubai.

His creations included works in Murano glass and sculptures in stainless steel using innovative and specialized techniques.

Steel is the base of all of Xhixha’s work and creations. He discovered how to unite the power of light with this material by confining it, transforming it by using “special effects” ultimately setting it free. The hardness and resistance of the steel are uniquely molded by folding, and turning it inside out. His desire is to capture and sculpt light through intervening methods by using the material to make his creations embrace the surrounding environment reflecting colors, shapes, opaqueness and brightness.

Among his many achievements, Xhixha is well known for the 5-meter high stainless steel sculpture of the “Prancing Horse” placed in front of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy, a monument dedicated to the victory of the Ferrari’s F1 World Cup in 2003.

In 2001 Xhixha took his first trip to Dubai and fell in love with the city. He was amazed by its rapid transformation into a metropolitan city enriched by amazing architecture and a culturally diverse demographic.

Porky Hefer-Audrey Esca – Hanging Nest

Porky Hefer focuses on conceptual precepts that manifest in three-dimensional forms, in a variety of executions from public sculptures and installations to product and furniture design. Fascinated by the reactions and energy a piece can generate in a space, he embraces Africa and the skills and processes that are readily available indigenously, rather than trying to emulate foreign processes. Hefer strives to produce work that elicits a smile and stays in your head.
