Dubai Airports, home to the world’s fastest growing airline Emirates, said passenger traffic registered an increase of 15.4% in March compared to a year earlier, thanks to new routes it added.
The government-run company said in an email statement on Wednesday that the number of passengers passing through the airport hit 4.85m from 4.2m a year ago.
Cargo volumes increased 0.3% to 186,417 tons from a year ago.
“New routes and additional frequencies are building on the magnetic attraction of Dubai’s hub as a premier leisure and business destination and a convenient connecting point for global travellers,” said CEO Paul Griffiths.
“As growth continues to pick up in almost all markets, both traditional and new, the outlook for the second quarter is similarly positive.”
