The Dubai Fitness Challenge designed to motivate people to pursue a dynamic and energetic lifestyle is set to commence on October 20, 2017.

The new initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai Government and Dubai Sports Council aims to see a smarter, healthier and active UAE.

The agenda behind the new Fitness Challenge is to encourage residents to get involved for atleast 30 minutes of daily physical activity for a period of 30 days.

The motive is to have healthier citizens in the UAE and have the country stand out as the most active country in the world. The Fitness Challenge includes a variety of physical, fitness activities and excerise.

The Dubai fitness initiative couldn’t have come from a more active person to take the lead on. Sheikh Hamdan has been involved in a variety of thriller adventure activities including climbing atop Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower to wave the UAE flag after winning the World Expo 2020, taking part and winning endurance horse races, diving and sky diving.

Besides, a number of fun carnivals, expert talks encouraging sports activites are also set to take place in prominent locations in Dubai from the 20-21st October 2017. The prevalence of obesity has increased at a rapid rate during the last years. UAE has an obesity rate that is double the world average, according to a disease study report. The study indicated that nearly 36 per cent of men and 30 per cent of women were overweight, 11.9 per cent were obese. Moreover, the middle east has also seen an increase in it’s citizens suffering from Vitamin D deficiency.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said: “Dubai aims to set an example for cities around the world in encouraging citizens to give high importance to physical activity and sports. ”

The Fitness challenge is the first multi-city all age group encompassing first city wide fitness regime till date. The activities are not limited to sports and hard core physical exercises but also yoga, aerobics, football, cycling etc.

Sheikh Hamdan also expressed his confidence in the citizens of the UAE to give back to the fitness challenge wholeheartedly. A portal has been also created where citizens can register and pledge to commit to the 30 day fitness activity by simply visiting www.dubaifitnesschallenge.com.

Physical exercise will not only boost physical health but also contribute to emotional and psychological wellness. A healthier Dubai definitely means a Happier city!

Speaking to Dubai Eye Radio 103.8 FM during Business Breakfast Show on Dubai Fitness Challege Issam Kazim, CEO of the DTCM said that the product of the fitness challenge is a lifestyle change that has to start from home. Child Obesity has seen notorious rates in Dubai in the last decade. The 30 days can be seen as a period to change a certain behavior or drop the behavior.

“The idea is to keep it as simple as possible. This will encourage to get over 100,000 people to participate. People can just download the app and track their activity. They can also create challenges within themselves and their peers.” He said.

The 30 day fitness challenge will also be an opportunity to increase family bonding. Not just for the parents and children, but also will allow for a chance to let the grandparents take their grandchildren out for a walk, swim etc.

“At the corporate level, Organizations are recommended to create engagement within their staff members and departments by organizing competitions against other departments. Firms should give extra time to pursue this challenge to lead to an active lifestyle. The personalization is left to oneself as long as they achieve 30/30 challenge.” added Issam.

People are encouraged to pursue a healthy lifestyle in the long run rather than focusing on a 30 day expiry date.
