This year marked the 20th running of Dubai World Cup, which is the world’s richest equestrian race. The race was held on March 28, 2015, at the iconic Meydan Racecourse, brought together equestrians and others for a day of excitement. The combined prize money for the event is $30 million.
The event includes nine races, but the major highlight is the $10 million Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airline. Prince Bishop, ridden by jockey William Buick and trained by UAE’s Saeed bin Suroor won the race. The owner is none other than the Dubai’s Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan.
Despite a slow start, the eight year old Prince Bishop stormed in to the front and defeated the favorite California Chrome. However, second place still earns a cool $2 million, while the third place, won by Lea, another American horse earns 1.25 million.
Sheikh Hamdan later announced that he is donating $6 million prize money to Dubai Autism Centre, of which he is the Chairman.
