Addressing Zayed Future Leaders at Dubai School of Government, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and a member of the Board of Trustees at the Dubai School of Government (DSG) spoke about how Education was the passport to freedom, and work being inherent to human nature. A strong foundation will, therefore, shape capable all-rounded adults with a progressive vision, thorough knowledge of the realities of life, flexible approach, and a can-do-attitude, which are key to achieving success in life,

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi’s comments came during a session of Success Story, organized by DSG as part of its leadership development initiative, ‘Zayed Future Leaders Program, for the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program (SZHP). Speaking to the participants of the Program, she offered guidance on several primary factors that the emerging leaders must factor into their decision making process.

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi also pointed out that it is of critical importance that the leaders of today help in cultivating a new class of highly-skilled, competent young leaders who can successfully carry forward the legacy of the UAE. Stressing that the destiny of the UAE lies in the hands of the youth, she said: “For shaping the country’s development, the youth must be equipped with effective communication skills and demonstrate traits such as social responsibility, solidarity, confidence and optimism.”

Speaking about the dynamic changes that the world has seen, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi pointed out that over the last few decades, life has transformed radically. This has led to quicker and impulsive decision-making – which has inadvertently sprung up several obstacles. Rapid economic developments in the UAE, which was also impacted by global financial crisis that took root in the US and the European Union, has further added to the challenges.

With regards to the information explosion that has resulted from the easy access to technology, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi warned that it is necessary to validate the authenticity of the information and the source’s legitimacy.

Commenting on the role and status of women in Arab and Islamic societies, she pointed out that women held high-level political positions in several Islamic Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. She called upon the women in Arab countries to redouble their efforts to demonstrate excellence.

In conclusion, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi said: “Each of you must uphold the values and recognize the achievements of our ancestors despite the difficult life they led. Remaining rooted to our past will help us face our challenges through drawing inspiration from their success.”

Drawing the participation of select high-caliber employees from Sheikh Zayed Housing Program, the ‘Zayed Future Leaders’ Program covers topics such as financial management, negotiation, motivation and team building. Uniquely designed to harness the essential qualities of management, decision-making, problem-solving and business competence, the program aims to prepare future leaders for tackling potential challenges and contribute to the process of nation-building.
