Riverbed Technology, the IT Performance Company, recently carried out research on UAE IT spending priorities, surveying some of the UAE’s most influential IT decision makers.
Research findings named server virtualization & wide area network (WAN) optimization as spending priorities for ME organizations.
54% of UAE IT decision makers surveyed named server virtualization as a priority IT spend in the UAE.
The continued evolution of the datacenter architecture from a physical to a virtual and cloud environment requires enterprises to deploy ADCs that are more flexible, dynamic, and application-aware than ever before. Riverbed Stingray is designed to be deployed seamlessly across all IT architectures, including physical, virtual, cloud, software-defined, and hybrid data centers. The solution’s key differentiators are its flexible software and virtual form factors, the custom scripting capability that provides organizations with granular control over their applications, and advanced features such as web content optimization (WCO) and web application firewall security capabilities.
70% of organizations surveyed in the UAE stated they are most likely to upgrade existing business critical applications such as data backup systems if they had greater bandwidth or freed up WAN traffic.
While companies have relied on tape-based backups for decades, the growth of data is putting enterprises at risk because the process of recovering data from tapes often exceeds service level agreements (SLAs) demanded by the business. Some enterprises have responded by moving to replicated disk-based backup strategies, but relentless data growth has made these configurations cost-prohibitive for many IT departments.
Riverbed, in October 2012 introduced a new Whitewater cloud storage gateway model appliance to handle larger backup data workloads and a next generation operating system for all Whitewater appliance models. The new Whitewater model 3010 appliance offers four times the local storage capacity of previous models to address larger scale Middle East enterprise requirements. Additionally, Riverbed is introducing Whitewater Operating System (WWOS) version 2.0, which was built for enterprise-grade performance, high scalability and simplified administration. Whitewater appliances running WWOS 2.0 will enable enterprises in the region to better leverage cloud storage to meet their critical backup requirements, modernize their data management strategies and overcome the challenges created by the staggering pace of data growth.
46% of UAE enterprises surveyed see wide area network (WAN) optimization as a spending priority.
These UAE respondents stated they are likely to increase spending on WAN optimization tools moving into 2013. Riverbed Technology and Juniper Networks, the industry leader in network innovation, in August 2012, announced a technology partnership in WAN optimization, application delivery and mobility to deliver market-leading technologies for enterprises looking to increase the efficiency of their IT infrastructures and securely deliver better performance of applications across devices, networks and clouds.
