LinkedIn, the world’s top professional networking company has announced that it has hit 15 million members mark in the UK.
Amidst the prevailing dominance of Twitter and Facebook in the social networking domain, LinkedIn has its own distinguished pride of place. Its uniqueness stemming from the fact that’s perhaps the only social networking website that caters on the ‘formalised’ platform, LinkedIn has managed to not only sustain itself, but has also thrived with each passing year following its initiation.

While it wouldn’t be fair to draw any comparisons between LinkedIn and Facebook and Twitter with regards to stature and elite status in the social media domain, it would be quite wrong as well to not juxtapose the growing relevance of LinkedIn alongside these two well-renowned social media sites.
Founded in 2003 by Reid Hoffman along with several key members of popular web domains PayPal and Socialnet.com like Allen Blue, Eric Ly, Jean-Luc Vaillant and Lee Hower – to name a few – LinkedIn was launched as a platform for professionals to network amongst peers and as such was termed as a ‘professional networking site.’
