Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International, Dubai?s new airport, will be opened to private and corporate business carriers next year. According to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, the operator of DWC and Dubai International, the new terminal will cater to private rather than to the general aviation community. He also added that so far they have not signed any major deals. ?The new terminal will remove some of the traffic at the Dubai International airport.
Presently, Al Futtaim is given the licence to build a corporate jet facility at the new airport. Al Futtaim Services Company has a contract with DWC, signed in December last year under which they will provide a wide range of services at Dubai’s new airport. They have a joint venture with one of the leading business jet operator in Europe.
The exact time period for opening the airport’s passenger terminal is not yet decided. However, the progress of the construction is as scheduled and is on track as per the plan. They are confident of deciding about the exact date by October this year.
The airport administrative body in the mean time is busy recruiting staff for fire services and engineering support teams. Even though there is only one runway at the moment, the new airport is confident of giving more time slots to their customers. The new airport plans to have a capacity similar to the Dubai International.
