The Dubai Fitness Challenge, a community initiative, launched by the dynamic Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan has sparked much enthusiasm across the country ever since it’s announcement. The regions first city wide, all encompassing age group championship has motivated people from all walks of life to dedicate 30 minutes of their time to engage in physical activity or exercise, for a period of 30 days.
If you received a text message from Sheikh Hamdan yesterday, fear not! it is no spam, it is a personal invitation from the Crown Prince himself for you to take part in the Fitness Challenge!
With the Dubai Fitness Challenge just one day away, the corporate world has also geared up in one form or another to encourage the employees and departments to take part in the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) and thus cultivate an active lifestyle.

#Dubai30x30 and #DubaiFitnessChallenge took Social Media by storm
If there is a classic example of how social media can be put to good use, especially to motivate people on improving their health and wellness, #DubaiFitnessChallenge is one!
Hashtags #Dubai30x30 and #DubaiFitnessChallenge have got a nice traction on social media which has helped residents signup for the challenge.
According to the social media monitoring company Meltwater, from the second the initiative was announced to date (October 19th) there have been over 10,000 mentions of the challenge. Twitter leads the social media conversation with 68% of the mentions, followed by Instagram & Facebook. The number one activity social media users are talking about is running (370+ mentions), followed closely by yoga (330+ mentions).
According to Zubair Timol, Director of Strategy at Meltwater: “The coverage indicates a positive reaction, with #Dubai30x30 and #DubaiFitnessChallenge trending the topic continues to be a prevalent one for companies. Employers are taking employee well-being and fitness into account, such as Meltwater who recently launched their own, in house yoga room for their employees”.

Emirates Group gears up for DFC in full swing
Emirates Airline released a short video for the event in which the airline cabin crew was seen jogging along the beach in the scenic background of Burj Al Arab, and a message “Have fun Dubai. We will” at the end of the video.

Emirates Group, the regions leading aviation industry, has been actively engaging with its 70,000 strong workforce to go the extra mile and commit to 30 minutes of activity for 30 days. In fact, when emirates said it will go the ‘extra mile’, they were quite serious about it. Emirates employees are offered deep discounts on EK Fit clothing at the Emirates Official Store as well as at well-known sportswear and accessories stores!
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive for Emirates Airline & Group said: “We have wholeheartedly accepted the challenge and have partnered with the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC). Many of our employees are desk-based, and physical inactivity is a reality that many working professionals face everyday. ”
Employees who register by 20 October and complete the 30×30 challenge will receive one free Service Related Concession ticket to anywhere on the Emirates network. Now, that’s some great reinforcement!
In addition, if an employee is ranked among the top ten winners in an individual competition or among the top five in a team competition of a Dubai Fitness Challenge organised event, they will receive an extra five annual leave days which will be added to their total yearly allocation.
There are almost 40 different sports and hobby clubs already managed and run by Emirates Group employees, ranging from football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, cricket, cycling, rugby, hockey, amongst other sports. During the Dubai Fitness Challenge, various classes and training sessions will be facilitated for employees, free of charge, such as martial arts classes and volleyball tournaments, with more to come.
RTA and DEWA among the Corporate Participants
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has actively accepted the Dubai Fitness Challenge as well.
“At DEWA, we are ready to accept the Dubai Fitness Challenge. Our goal is to ensure that all DEWA employees take part in this pioneering initiative,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
DEWA’s top management is set to provide unlimited support to the employees, and encourage them to participate in various sports tournaments and physical activities. DEWA also organize awareness and health-related programmes and activities that contribute to improving the physical fitness of its staff.
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) announced their participation in the Dubai Fitness Challenge. A video of employees was posted online where they were doing chin-ups on a bus, sprinting through the Dubai Metro and practicing yoga on an abra ferry!

Dubai Media City Launches ‘FIT DMC’ Sports Initiative
Dubai Media City, the region’s largest community dedicated to the media industry has rolled out a community-wide FIT DMC initiative. FIT DMC is open to people of all ages and fitness levels. The initiative offers a range of fun and challenging health and fitness activities in collaboration with TK MMA Gym.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Media City, said: “It is a known fact that an active individual is far more productive than his or her sedentary counterparts. Supporting His Highness Sheikh Hamdan’s fitness challenge, we have created an initiative that encourages our community members to take up fitness activities in an engaging and friendly environment.”
FIT DMC offers seven different sporting activities including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, running, boxing, boot camp and jiu jitsu for kids. Admission is on a first-come-first serve and participants can join any of the activities being conducted at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, Lake Gazebo, Lakeside and TK MMA Gym.
Participants are encouraged to post their health journey on Dubai Media City social media handles on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #FITDMC and interact with the Dubai Media City handles.
Dubai Properties set to give you Free Yoga Classes!
Dubai Properties, a leading Dubai-based real estate master developer is offering free yoga classes at Marasi Business Bay, starting from 20 October 2017. Yoga is proven to improve brain function, reduce stress levels, lower the risk of heart disease and promote an active sense of wellness.
