November is all about men. Anantara’s UAE Hotels and Resorts have taken a bold step to add Prostate Cancer to their CSR activities and during the entire month of November, the luxury hotel group has developed a variety of special promotions with the objective of raising awareness to support the global programme Movember.
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, here in the UAE and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically Prostate Cancer.
Each of the Anantara Hotels and Resorts in the UAE which includes Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa on Abu Dhabi’s Salam Street, Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort in the Liwa Desert and Desert Islands Resort & Spa on Sir Bani Yas Island have taken Movember to another level with promotions designed to communicate key messages about Prostate Cancer which is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men after skin cancer, to guests and employees.
Latest global research indicates that 1 in 7 men develop Prostate Cancer during his life time and 1 in 28 die from it. Alarming statistics reflect that a man dies from prostate cancer every 15.6 minutes.
“We have just completed a highly successful breast cancer awareness ‘pink’ month at our Anantara properties in the UAE and felt that an opportunity existed for us to now invest effort and creativity to contribute to global awareness about Prostate Cancer. Given our industry type, growing moustaches to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer, which is where the term Movember was born, isn’t ideal particularly for food handlers, so we have adopted some other ways of ensuring we reach out to our guests with the all important messages.” said Michel Koopman, Director of Operations Middle East, Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas.
“It is an important cause that needs much support, with early detection and treatment of Prostate Cancer having success rates of up to 95%. In 2012, it is anticipated that as many as 26,500 new cases of Prostate Cancer will be diagnosed and that 4,000 men will die globally. Awareness is key.” said Koopman.
Among the activities arranged are Complimentary Blue Mocktails with artistic straws featuring moustaches at all of the all day dining outlets for lunch and dinner buffets – Al Waha at Qasr Al Sarab, Ingredients at Eastern Mangroves and The Palm at Desert Islands. Special Happy Hours targeting men are available at the Pool Bar at Qasr Al Sarab, Al Shams at Desert Islands and Impressions at Eastern Mangroves.
Moga is a unique yoga class created especially as a fundraiser for Movember, encouraging participation from both men and women. Moga will be held on the pool deck at Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara on 2nd November at 10:00AM (60 minute class) and on the Ingredients terrace at 4:00PM (30 minute class). Yoga teacher, Jennifer Stewart will guide participants through a series of Vinyasa flow yoga postures and breathing, alongside the serene mangrove setting. The class is AED 50 per person and the full amount will be donated to Movember.
“We’re having a lot of fun with this promotion, so do keep an eye on our Anantara facebook page. Why not grow a moustache yourself or encourage a group of friends? You’ll be a living advertisement about early detection!” encourages Koopman.
