realme Pro 5 Review: A worthy mid-ranger that will meet your most demanding requirements while being considerate on price.

Successor to realme 3 Pro, realme 5 Pro packs quite a punch with a stunning design, massive battery capacity and a faster processor. There is hardly any competitor for realme 5 Pro in the market competing in similar segment.

realme Pro 5 Features

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 AIE processor
  • 6.3-inch Full HD screen (2340×1080)
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB Internal Storage expandable via MicroSD
  • 48MP AI Quad Camera
  • 4035mAh High Capacity Battery
  • VOOC 3.0 Flash (USB-C)
  • Dual Sim Capability

What we loved

  • Screen is brilliant for the price point
  • Slim Bezels give the devices the premium feel to it
  • Good performance
  • There’s still a 3.5mm Headphone Jack. Pretty big deal today.
  • What we didn’t like
  • ColorOS. Well, for all that extra features and customization there is always a small price to pay – bloatware.
  • Camera app is a bit sluggish
  • Lack of third-party accessories

New Crystal Design

realme 5 Pro adopts the diamond cutting design that is typical of realme design gene and thoroughly upgrades it. Different from the matte cutting texture of the previous generation, the new generation adopts the original polished surface and new nanoscale textures. Its process has also been adjusted and upgraded accordingly.

The whole design process involves 15 times of prototyping and 78 times of detailed adjustment at the back, producing a brand new visual effect — holographic color with the cutting texture.

Overall, the design is neat and has got that trendy look and feel.

The handset is available in two colours: Crystal Green and Crystal Blue

Display

The screen measures 6.3-inches, and has a Full HD resolution (2340 x 1080) offering a wider and clearer vision. Minimalized bezel along with the elegant “dewdrop” notch at the top of the screen design maximizes the screen-to-body ratio to 90.8%, giving a nice full view display.

Even though there is there is no display-embedded fingerprint scanner, the rear-mounted scanner is quite fast in unlocking.

Outdoor viewing might be a bit of an issue since due to the display’s peak brightness being limited to 450 nits.

Performance

realme 5 Pro excels in performace in its category of mid-range phones. For an average user, apps run smoothly and is quite responsive even if you have some run in the background.

ColorOS

Now you can’t really expect flagship level of specs on these devices. They’re called mid-range for a reason.

But, rest assured you can get all your regular stuff done like emails, messaging, social media apps, etc without any hassle whatsoever.

We are no fan of ColorOS, as we have seen there are issues with the OS in terms of apps slowing down as well as sluggish performance when too many apps are kept open. However OS updates that came later improved security as well as overall performance.

Battery Life

With a power packed 4035mAh battery, there is little chance that you will run out of power doing your entire day even if you watch some videos, play games and clicking some snaps.

Rest assured realme 5 Pro’s battery can satisfy the daily moderate use demand of most users. At the same time, realme 5 Pro has the AI Freezer function at the system level, which can intelligently predict the user’s app usage, and promptly freeze the unused apps to save power.

Now, even if you do run out of power, the industry’s best VOOC 3.0 fast charging support enables real me Pro 5 to charge in no time so that you can quickly get on with business.

Camera

realme offers transcending image by opening the ultra high resolution quad-camera era, providing users with all-round photography experience that is applicable in various scenarios. For this purpose, realme 5 Pro features a quad-camera combination of 48-megapixel main camera (Sony IMX 586) +119° ultra-wide-angle lens + ultra macro lens + portrait lens on the back.

realme 5 Pro supports recording of up to 4K-resolution videos. The front and rear cameras both feature the Electric Image Stabilization (EIS) function. The video function also supports recording slow motion videos in 960fps and 720P-resolution, slowing you down to discover the beauties in life. realme 5 Pro supports video editing, which can add and adjust video speed, filters, texts, soundtrack effects, etc. You can also render edited video through the theme function, convenient for social network sharing.

realme 5 Pro’s front camera features a 16-megapixel samples, f/2.0 aperture Sony IMX471 image sensor with 5P high-concentration lens, supports Quad Bayer smart pixel 4-in-1 technology that can synthesize 2μm large pixels for excellent selfie performance in low light. The skin color of the image is natural and the detail is highly restored. In addition, the image stabilization of the front camera video shooting is better, and the nightscape mode will supported by the OTA later.
