The intelligence agency MI6 (made famous by James Bond movies) launched a cyber operation (a hack) to teach would be terrorists the art of making fairy cupcakes instead of tips on how to build bombs. That?s sweet.
The cyber-operation was launched against Jihadi magazine, “Inspire”, in an attempt to hamper attempts by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular (AQAP) to attract “lone wolf” terrorists. Surfers trying to download the English magazine?s ?Make a bomb in the Kitchen of your Mom? by the AQ chief were greeted with garbled computer code.
The code, which had been inserted into the original magazine by the British intelligence hackers, was actually a web page of recipes for ?The Best Cupcakes in America? published by the Ellen DeGeneres chat show.
Written by Dulcy Israel and produced by Main Street Cupcakes in Hudson, Ohio, it said ?the little cupcake is big again? adding: ?Self-contained and satisfying, it summons memories of childhood even as it’s updated for today?s sweet-toothed hipsters.?
However, this hack was not recent, it happened a year back but the event details came into light only recently.
Sources added that both UK and US were taking steps to bring down the online magazine but it was the Brits that got there first and brought the downfall of ?Inspire?.
As of now, the online terrorism fight is a huge thing and is continuing strongly. Just this week the UK government announced that it is working on cyber weapons to help in counteract online terrorism. The US has termed the recent cyber attacks on the country as an ?art of war?.
Maybe it is time for English Muffins to help Uncle Sam.
