Research in Motion (RIM) has officially launched the long awaited BlackBerry App World, with support from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in UAE.
This launch, in UAE, is in the authority?s strategy to support more mobile apps creation and accessibility in the country. ?This is a great day for the Middle East application developer community. We will encourage the UAE universities to develop applications on BlackBerry devices,? Mohammad Al Ghanem, director general of Telecommunication Regulatory Authority said.
The launch is to be seen as a milestone for the BlackBerry makers, the popular smart phone in the country; and most awaited one, especially among the tech savvy Emiratis for its encrypted BlackBerry Messenger Service (BBM), as found in a survey conducted by the TRA in January 2011.
BlackBerry App World is an application distribution service and application by the Canadian device maker Research in Motion (RIM). This service allows BlackBerry users to browse, download and update third party applications. The service went live on April 1, 2009, and in UAE yesterday.
