Foodiac - UAE readies for personalized gourmet food experience

Foodiac, a Finland based start-up marketplace for high-end professional private chefs and allied services, expands its base in UAE. Supported by Turn8-accelarator, the start-up aims to bring together host of new, local, national and international chefs at one platform.

“We are bringing the elegance of fine dining to the comfort of your home or event, by offering a unique culinary experience. Foodiac will connect you directly with a handpicked network of the some of the world’s best chefs, right here in the UAE. With backgrounds in top international restaurants, they’’ can delight you with everything from whole foods to haute cuisine and make sure every occasion is tailored to your taste,” said Miikka Makio, one of the founders and CEO of Foodiac.

The start-up backed by Finnish restaurateur Arto Rastas and a Finnish VC firm Butterfly Ventures, goes by the motto, “Your event. Your chef. Your Foodiac.”

A customer can engage with any of the chefs listed on the website and customise his/her requirements. Its clientele and services will include home dinners, cooking schools, cocktails, tastings, business events, large events, buffets.

It is a new business model for the chefs, wherein they can build their reputation, network better as well as earn additional income.

“We want to help our chefs do what they love – cooking. We take care of the sales and marketing, and provide them with sophisticated tools to enhance their business, giving them precious time to be creative and innovate. In Finland, we now have chefs quitting their day-jobs and focusing full-time on Foodiac’s customers, making sure every meal they get is a meal to remember,” added the CEO.

Food and beverage industry plays a vital role in the UAE’s economic growth and is projected to account for 36% of the total economic growth between 2014 and 2016.
